Third in a series of lectures at the North Carolina School of the Arts on the Enlightenment. Dr. Robert Rosthal, of the University of North Carolina, speaks on reason and religion of the Enlightenment. Dr. Rosthal discusses the impact of the scientific method of the 17th and 18th centuries on the evolution of religious thought, using the writings of notable scientists and philosophers of the period including Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Descartes, Locke, Hume, and Holbach ; and traces the evolution of religious thought from Deism, through Skepticism, to Atheism.
